Participating in the Heritage Weekend festivities has been an annual event for historic homes in Hardy County. Built c.1787-1790, the Robert Higgins House is the oldest residential building in Moorefield. The House is currently undergoing restoration to create a small museum exploring the log house's architectural history and the life of its builder, Captain Robert Higgins, a farmer, member of the 8th Virginia Regiment during the Revolutionary War, a prisoner-of-war, and a western territory settler.
