Sacagawea

August 8 @ 7:00 pm - 12:00 am

Event Navigation

History Alive is a program of first-person portrayals of historical figures by presenters who have conducted scholarly research on their character. When Lewis and Clark hired her French-Canadian husband as an interpreter for their expedition in 1804 Sacagawea became the lone female member of the Corps of Discovery. She gave birth to a son in early 1805 and cared for the newborn while on the grueling journey to the Pacific. Aside from her value as an interpreter with knowledge of the landscape her presence with the expedition also communicated to tribes along the way that the Corps had peaceful intentions.
