In the anchor public humanities event for the second annual Celtic Calling, a three-day celebration of Celtic arts, culture and traditions, Dr. Moloney will examine the impact of Scots-Irish migration to Appalachia. In West Virginia and the Upland South, Scots Irish mixed freely with Native Americans and German, Scottish and English settlers, and later with African Americans. Although many Appalachian cultural traits can be traced to Scots-Irish origins, some have heterogeneous roots.
